Faucet mounted water filters can usually be installed without any tools so they are perfect as a do it yourself project. On tap iron filter units are an inexpensive way to removed discoloration from well water.

Tap or faucet mounted water filters reduce lead, mercury, asbestos, sediment and chlorine, and remove microbiological cysts that can contaminate drinking water. Some faucet mounted filters are also specially designed to remove Trihalomethanes (THMs) - the chlorination by-products linked to increased risk of cancer.

Faucet mounted water filters have removable filter cartridges that need to be changed periodically - usually after 2 to 3 months. Some have an added bypass feature that allows you to obtain unfiltered water from the faucet when filtered water is not required, extending the life of the filter.
